Pamporovo
Pamporovo is an alpine resort, nestling in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains. Winter is long and open and summer is cool and fresh. Pamporovo is situated at a distance of 260 km from the capital Sofia, 85 km from Plovdiv and 15 km from Smolyan. It stands 1650 above sea level, at the foot of the peak Snejanka (1926 m).
The resort was founded in 1933. Since then, many hotels, shopping centres, restaurants and ski tracks have been constructed. The resort disposes of more than 8500 beds. The most famous hotels are Murgavets, Perelik, Snejanka, Prespa, Finlandia, Pamporovo, Rojen, Orpheus, and Panorama.
The ski tracks of Pamporovo have all degrees of difficulty and a total length of 34 km. The lifts and the rope- lines have capacity of 8500 people per hour. The ski academy in Pamporovo is one of the best in Europe. Highly qualified instructors teach the beginners individually or in-groups. There are steep tracks for the experienced skiers such as special tracks and a rifle- range for the fans of the biathlon and ski sprint. Near to the ski tracks and the hotels are ski wardrobes. Pamporovo hosts international ski competitions. A 150 m long halfpipe with 3 m high walls has been constructed, too.
Most hotels feature rehabilitation centers. Among the unique spots for relaxation is the panoramic bar, located in the tower of the summit Snejanka (2030 m above sea level).
Tourists can visit also the Momchilovtsi resort (17 km) and the ethnographical complex of Shiroka luka (10 km), and to the north is located the town of Chepelare.
Pamporovo welcomes the tourists all year round, it’s a wonderful place for a visit both in winter and in summer.
