The National Astronomical Observatory Rozhen is located about 14 kilometers from Chepelare and 15 km from Pamporovo. It is located at an elevation of 1750 m above sea level and is the largest observatory complex for optical astro-physics research in South Eastern Europe and one of the five largest in Europe.

There are a total of 4 telescopes with the largest having a 2 meter diameter lens. Tours to the facility are possible after 2pm with a group of 6 people or larger.
